Standard DBT

Standard DBT consists of individual sessions, skills training, coaching support between sessions, and a therapist consultation team. Skills training typically occurs in a group class. Skills training can also be available with individual skills trainers, depending on the situation. Standard DBT covers mindfulness (being in the moment in a non-judgmental way), distress tolerance (coping for getting through painful situations without making it worse), emotion regulation (daily practices to reduce vulnerability, as well as increase positive experience and sense of mastery), and interpersonal effectiveness (to meet your needs, build desired relationships, let go of toxic situations, and keep your self-respect). For adolescents and families, standard DBT also includes walking the middle path (validation, to communicate the recognition of where someone is coming from), and behaviorism (effective reinforcement to promote desired behavior, and consequences to reduce undesired behavior). Extensive research supports this approach. Dr. Angela’s training includes a foundation in treatment research, as well as extensive mentorship under leaders in the field. She has participated in cutting-edge collaborations and clinical application across levels of care and diagnostic presentations, particularly eating disorders, publishing and presenting. Dr. Angela also firmly holds a high standard for adherence by each Centered Ground therapist, closely supervising.
