Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO DBT)

What is RO DBT?

RO DBT consists of individual sessions, skills training, and coaching support between sessions. Skills training typically occurs in a group class. Skills training can also be available with individual skills trainers, depending on the situation. The skills course covers psychoeducation on neuroregulatory systems, flexibility, social safety signaling, as well as skills for resentment, bitterness, embarrassment, and forgiveness. RO DBT is most helpful for overcontrolled patterns characterized by emotional loneliness, as well as perfectionism, persistently elevated anxiety, chronic depression, and restrictive behaviors, e.g., restrictive eating. It supports you in letting go of rigid patterns, increasing self-awareness, finding your tribe, valuing, and seeking opportunities for growth and learning. Overcontrolled patterns can also be present on the autism spectrum. Research support for RO DBT includes multiple randomized trials and effectiveness studies.

Dr. Angela and staff therapist Mia Najor, LMFT, have been intensively trained by the treatment developer, Dr. Thomas Lynch (as of 2015 and 2018, respectively). Embarking on this specialty in 2013, Dr. Angela is a foundational member of the first cohort of U.S. clinicians in this approach, continuing international collaboration.
